RECO advances on the electrification of Saint Helene

Roatán Electric Company (RECO) progresses in the electrification project for the island of Saint Helene, community of Santos Guardiola, which borders the Morat and Barbareta islands. The project shows an important advancement with the installation of poles and aerial electrical wiring.

This expansion project of the electrification network will be completing the first stage with the placement of 115 fiberglass poles, which is a more lasting material for the climate of the area.

75% of the poles have been installed and the wiring for the first section of main power lines. This includes the first stage of the project with the extension of the three-phase line that comes from the Diamond Rock area to the area of Camp Bay and old Port Royal, valued in an investment of 12 million lempiras. Once the first stage is concluded the second phase will be performed that includes an extension of two kilometers of submarine line, from the area of ​​Port Royal to Saint Helene.

This electric lighting project will benefit a population of 800 people located in the Saint Helene area, which includes the communities of Bentley Bay, El Bight, La Punta, Sico, Mangrove Bight and Banda Norte.

The culmination of the installation of the electric service on the island will bring greater investments to the tourism sector, which will represent a major contribution to the economic development of the area, considering all the investments for supermarkets, banking services and other commercial areas that will surely be attracted.

This project began in April 2017, has as an ambicious goal to make the entire community of Santa Elena have access to electric power by the end of the year 2018.
